What is each division’s best-combined roster? Part 4–6:Northwest.
Usually, divisions clash for their division title and bragging rights in local areas. However, what if the best of the best from the five teams in each division combined to compete with the others (excluding players with no minutes this season). Here is my best 14 man roster from the Northwest division:
PG-Damian Lillard
Dame is statistically playing his worst basketball since the 2014/15 season. However, he is still a top 5 point guard in the league and was fighting hard to get the Blazers a playoff spot, before his injury. Even though Dame has pledged his loyalty to the Blazers and signed an extension until the 2024–25 season, it may be time for Dame to look down some other routes if he doesn't get help soon.
SG-Donovan Mitchell
Donovan Mitchell is one of the most underrated players in the league because the Jazz continuously fails to progress in the playoffs. However, this season has been his second-best statistically but once again he hasn't had the recognition he deserves. It will be interesting to see how far the Jazz can go this season with Ingles, Gobert, and Clarkson out right now, testing Donovan Mitchell’s ability to carry the Jazz without those guys.
SF-Anthony Edwards
Edwards has broken into the league and has already had an impact on a previously failing Timberwolves team. The Ant-Man has brought a breath of fresh air to the Wolves which has allowed them to improve on both sides of the floor. His hunger to win has given the Wolves a new meaning to their basketball because they are no longer looking to tank just to draft the next star.
PF-Karl-Anthony Towns
KAT has gone under the radar throughout the last few years of his career because of the team he is playing on and the lack of success he has had in the playoffs (playing once in 2018 and exiting in 5 games against Houston). However, the Wolves are going to where they wanted to be when they started their long journey of tanking. They currently sit 7th in the Western Conference but if they can break into the playoffs, it will be their second time there in 18 years.
C-Nikola Jokić
Jokić has had a sudden rise to success as he is the reigning MVP. He has been carrying the Nuggets through the last 2 years without Michael Porter Jr and Jamal Murray. Jokić is a rare type of player that we have never seen before. A center who can average 7–8 assists per game, 10 rebounds, 25 points, and shoot nearly 40% from 3.
BENCH:
6-Rudy Gobert
Gobert just misses out on the starting five due to him being a liability on the offensive end and because I was playing 2 centers, the centers need to be able to space the floor. Gobert is one of the best defensive players in the league which is no secret but he is yet to succeed in the playoffs.
7-Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
SGA is one of the stronger younger players in the league but he plays on a small market team so his full potential is yet to shine through. This season has been his worst in terms of shooting from beyond the arc as he has gone down by 14%, however his defense has started to improve.
8-Bojan Bogdanović
Bogdanović has become one of the more reliable 3 point shooters in the league but after his career-best season in 2021, this season has seemed different however he is still a strong starter for the Jazz and consistently gives his team 15–20 points per night.
9-D’Angelo Russell
Since 2019–2020, DLo has started to decline in terms of scoring and overall performance however this correlates to Anthony Edwards entrance to the league, which forced Russell to play that 3rd option and he has done that successfully.
10-Luguentz Dort
Lu Dort has become one of the best young defenders in the league but has also shown his offensive ability after dropping 42 points last season. Alongside his Canadian teammate, Shai, they have created a promising young duo.
11-Jusuf Nurkić
Nurkić is one of the most underrated big men in the league averaging a double-double 3 times in the past 4 seasons. Alongside Dame, he has also struggled in the playoffs but has had his career plagued with injuries. Somehow he has still not lost his explosiveness and he continuously improves every season.
12-Jordan Clarkson
Jordan Clarkson had his best season last year and ended up winning 6th Man of the Year but this season he hasn't shown the same level of scoring he did last year. Clarkson’s efficiency has decreased a lot which is impacting his game heavily as his main ability is shooting.
13-Aaron Gordon
Gordon has struggled in a new environment in Denver, as he is no longer the main guy on the offense. This season he looks more settled on the Nuggets but he has become a lot more efficient which is not surprising considering his ability to attack the rim. He has the 3rd highest, 2 point percentage for non-big-men behind Mikal Bridges and LeBron James.
14-Will Barton
Will Barton is another player having a career-best season and has become one of the Nuggets’ most important starters. He has tried to step into the 3 point role with Jamal Murray out, he has picked up a lot of the slack that Jamal left on the Nuggets.
